6K Additive has finalised a $27.4 million secured loan agreement with the Export-Import Bank of the United States. EXIM's board approved $27,439,700 in November 2025; the current event is contractual closing of that financing, not a second separate grant.

The funding can expand four buildings and equipment at 6K's metal-powder plant in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. It targets domestic capacity for titanium, nickel, tungsten, C-103 niobium alloy and other critical powders used in aerospace, defence and industry.

Loan terms

The company describes a six-year term and a draw period through 30 June 2028. Twelve months of interest-only payments are followed by five years of amortisation. The rate is fixed from the CIRR published five days before the first draw; the published reference was 5.38% at the announcement date.

The structure covers $25.2 million of eligible cost and about $2.2 million of exposure fee. 6K calculated an all-in cost near 6.86% at then-current rates. A 0.5% commitment fee applies to undrawn funds.

What capacity must deliver

6K uses its UniMelt microwave-plasma process to spheroidise feedstock. Expansion matters if higher nominal tonnage also delivers stable particle-size distribution, low oxygen, good flow, batch repeatability and documented provenance.

An earlier company target was to move from roughly 200 tonnes per year to more than 1,000. That is a future target, not current output. EXIM also linked more than 50 jobs to the project; later headcount and production data must show execution.

Industrial policy and customer risk

Financing is under the Make More in America initiative for US manufacturing that supports exports. It can lower capital cost but does not guarantee customer qualification, demand or profitable utilisation.

For an AM user, a loan is not a material approval. Chemistry, oxygen, morphology, flow, recycling, mechanical properties and machine parameters still require validation, particularly in aerospace and defence.

Editorial conclusion

Closing is meaningful because it converts an approved project into drawable financing. The next verifiable milestones are actual draws, installed equipment, qualified tonnage and customer contracts.
